Week 1: First Contact

Have you ever wondered why so many people believe in little green men? Why do so many people believe that we are not alone in the universe? There is a reason for that. We are not alone. There is Intelligent Life out there, but its not a bunch of little green men. The truth is out there but you won't find it in Roswell, New Mexico.

Romans 1:20 "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse."

God created you as a priceless work of art and autographed your heart when He did. He put his maker's mark within you as a reminder that no matter what you go through in life you are not alone. Your friends, your family and your heroes will all let you down at times because they are only human. God, however, will not.

Deuteronomy 31:8 "The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."

In the show Star Trek, the voyagers of the Enterprise have certain protocols that they have to follow when making first contact. They have a set of rules they are supposed to follow when they approach a lifeform that they have never spoke with before. Such is not the case with God.

Mark 10:13 "People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. [14] When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. [15] I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.' [16] And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them."

Do little kids have special procedures they have to go through to come to their dad? Do they have to make an appointment? Do they have to clean themselves up before they can come into their father's presence. Of course not. They simply reach up and call out "daddy!" and wait to be scooped up into his loving arms.
As as precious child of God, your Heavenly Father loves you more deeply and more completely than even the best earthly father possibly could. He is always watching over you; looking out for you; providing for you. He delights in the sound of your voice calling Him and seeing your arms reaching out for Him. He doesn't even ask you clean yourself up before you come to him. He simply says come.

Matthew 11:28 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. [29] Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. [30] For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

Assignment:

Go for a walk this week alone with God. Talk to Him about what's been going on with you like you would an old friend.
