Week 8: Invasion
"A communication disruption can mean only one thing... Invasion" - Silo Bibble, Star Wars Episode I
Invasion. When you think of this word, what comes to mind? US Soldiers storming the beaches of Normandy? Giant saucers filled with little green men wanting to take over the world? Do you realize that you yourself are under invasion at this very moment? There is a very real enemy of your soul that would like nothing better than to destroy you. It's onslaughts are ruthless, clever, sometimes subtle, but always extremely destructive. As a believer in Christ you place yourself squarely at odds with the devil and right in the center of its target.
1 Peter 5:8 "Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. [9] Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings."
The first thing any army does before invading is to cut off their target's communication. With communication cut off, you can't call for help. Without the support of reinforcements, your attacker has less resistance to their invasion. As a believer, your two major forms of communication with God are through the Bible and through prayer. The devil will do whatever it can to disrupt that. It may start slowly at first, a missed prayer time here or there, dozing off during devotionals, but very soon a wall of static begins to build up between you and God. Communication is disrupted. The invasion begins.
John 10:10 "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."
There is good news though. The communication disruption isn't real. The devil can't really cut the com lines so he wants you to think they are down. Romans 10:13 says "Everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved". It doesn't matter where you are, how much trouble you are in, what kind of lies the devil has told you, Jesus is as close as the mention of his name. It doesn't matter how deep a foxhole you are hiding in, or how loud the bombardment is around you, He will always there you when you call.
Psalm 121:1 "I lift up my eyes to the hills -- where does my help come from? [2] "My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth."
