All Figured Out
By Sarah Salinas, Napoleon Ohio
Their smiling faces and those broken hearts no one sees
The covered traces and those open arms in shattered dreams
And he pretends he’s got life all figured out
But then again he’s drowning in doubt
And he hides his pain so no one sees
But I see there’s more than shadows in my dreams
And he avoids looking me in the eye
Because I can see what he’s trying to hide
And he admits this masquerade must end
But there’s so much security in trying to pretend
Yeah he’s the guy / everyone wonders where he’s goingAnd he has no idea what he’s doing
And I’m the one / no one quite hears what I’m saying
And everyone wonders what I’m doing
He asks me questions
But he doesn’t like the answersHe’s got a disease
That’s spreading even faster
And he hides his scars
But they’re so apparentI try to speak
But he just won’t hear it
Everyone tells me to quit
That I’m just to ill-equipped
Yeah I know they’re all wondering why
As they scream “Don’t throw your pearls to the swine!”But he means so much to me
And he’s dying in apathy
I don’t wanna see him die this way
I don’t wanna see him die
